My name is Yoram Savion and I am the Multimedia Production Coordinator for Youth UpRising. I first heard about Wix.com from a graduate professor at the Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism who offered it as an alternative to flash built or blog based websites.

My favorite thing about Wix is that it gives you complete creative freedom as long as you understand basic concepts of design in Illustrator or Photoshop. Having a basic knowledge of Flash also helped to understand what Wix was capable of doing with its powerful Flash based platform. The fact that the work is online allows me to work on and edit multiple projects anywhere in the world!

We now use Wix to teach students in our Web Design class. Wix is a much more realistic goal for teaching students who sometimes have little experience with computers. Our students often have a very intuitive and creative approach to design but cannot express it in complex software like Flash or Dreamweaver. Wix and Photoshop are the perfect tools to introduce new students to web design and give them the opportunity to see real professional results faster! Youth UpRising is a non-profit organization in East Oakland, CA, serving youth and young adults 13 to 24 years old with free programs in career & education, health & wellness and multimedia arts.

We created http://www.YUmediaArts.org to showcase the work being done by members and staff in the multimedia department. Our focus in creating music, generating media and designing graphics is always to prevent violence in our communities by providing alternatives for young people. The photos, videos, designs and music featured in this site are examples of the work we do with young people everyday to help them transform into positive, responsible and skilled leaders in their communities. Meet your New Free Office-Space: Introducing The Wix Lounge

At the end of July, Wix revealed the Wix Lounge to New York City! The Wix Lounge is a free workspace that professional freelancers can use an office during work hours. Equipped with comfy seating, free Wi-Fi and a modern interior design, the Wix Lounge is a perfect place for meeting up with clients, working, socializing with other creatives and getting tips or training

from the Wix Lounge staff.

Activities and Services

Wix Editor Workshops
Learn the ins and outs of the Wix.com Flash website editor. Classes are from 7:00 to 8:30 pm every Wednesday. Tips will be covered for all experience levels, from newbies to savvy users.

Guest Lectures
Hosted by accomplished industry professionals, our guest lectures are designed to engage the social, business and creative thinker inside many of us; to question and further understand the relevant topics of our time.

Meetup Events
The Digital Creatives Group meets twice a month covering all aspects of digital art from production to marketing. Teach, learn, grow and make meaningful connections for the future.

Wix Mixers
A solid network is crucial for any aspiring professional. We throw one big networking mixer each month, where hundreds of creative professionals come for conversation and drinks. Make sure to bring your business cards and your photogenic side for our event photographer.

Movie Nights
Projected screenings of design school classics: Helvetica, Lichtenstein, Exit Through the Giftshop, Style Wars, and How to Draw a Bunny, among many others.

Photo Studio
The Wix Lounge is not only for graphic designers. We provide space within the lounge to break out the camera and pose for perfection.

The Buzz

Over 200 of New York’s most creative minds attended the The Wix Lounge Reveal Party. Among the crowd were a few Wix designers including Whitney G-Bowley, Isaiah Frazier and Lorne Schussel.

Address and Office Hours

The Wix Lounge is located at 10 West 18th street, 2nd Floor, in Manhattan’s Chelsea District. The Lounge is open for use from Monday through Friday between the hours of 10am and 8pm.

The Wix Blog Social Marketing Series - Lesson #2: YouTube

Before we begin with the main topic for this post, just a small reinforcement of the previous lesson on the series, where we introduced Foursquare as a friendly tool for social marketing. Recently, Facebook released their own little (huge) Foursquare called Facebook Places. Like everything Facebook does, the new feature is generating quite a buzz at the moment and we therefore recommend to check it out.
